Pescadero Creek Park's approximately 26 miles of trails provides adventure for park visitors of all abilities. During a one-hour hike you can explore either Mt. Ellen, Huckleberry, Homestead, Creek, Big Tree, or Heritage Grove trails. Half day or more, you can hike Ridge Loop, Tarwater Loop, or Towne Trail. Butano Ridge Loop or the Pomponio Trail Provide all-day experiences for the avid hiker or jogger.
Horseback riding is also popular here, and many use Jack Brook Horsecamp just north in San McDonald Park, as a launching point for Pescadero Creek Trails. Check with park rangers for trail conditions prior to riding. All single-track trails are closed for winter after the first significant rains, and fire roads are open to horses as weather allows. No rental horses are available.
Cyclists may use Old Haul Road, Baker Fire Road, and Camp Pomponio Rd. Towne Fire Road may be used by bicycles only between Old Haul Road and Shaw Flat Camp. Tarwater Camp can be accessed from Baker Fire Rd.
Hike-in camps are available to backpackers on a first come, first served basis at Shaw Flat and Tarwater Trail Camps. A permit is required, which has a fee of $10 per night, and can be obtained at the Memorial Park Ranger Station. The trail camps have vault toilets but no available water. No campfires are allowed. Call the park for up-to-date information on fire conditions at (650) 879-0238.
